Richard Woodman uses rotary tool bits on Resingrave, an engraving plate which he has developed. He is interested in intaglio printing his blocks, something Eric Gill pioneered (for wood engraving) back around 1920 or so. In intaglio printing the block is inked, then the surface is wiped off, and the print is made from the ink remaining in the carved lines of the block. Relief printing is the opposite, the ink is lifted off the surface of the block, the carved lines remaining white in the print.
